I'm not going to read a book just because the screenwriter forgot to put in an important detail. That's stupid, yet I hear it all the time. "You need to read the book to understand what's going on." No, the filmmakers need to make sure they've included all the necessary information in their stupid movie.

Oh, I forgot — I believe Romily said he was on the spaceship for 23 years. Might have been 28. He slept through some of it, I think he said.

I don't recall them saying Gargantua was a spinning black hole. As I mentioned above, that's the only way for the planets to be that close, and there's no way I'm sitting through that movie again to find out. But that single word is pretty important, like the difference between "active" and "extinct" when speaking of

Yeah, the second machine just felt like a major Ass Pull.

On technical level, Contact is nearly unparalleled in its brilliance. The "running to get the medicine" shot is an amazing trick shot that expertly and invisibly uses CGI to combine shots.

For every example of "too many cooks ruining the broth," there is a counter-example of "two heads are better than one."

If they come up with a killer app for Glass or if it's shown to be beneficial as a safety device the way smart phones were, public opinion will shift on a dime in favor of Glass.

Don't worry about me thinking that the Age of Aquarius nonsense is real. I can discern between the hard stuff and the woo-woo, what's supposed to be actually happening versus what the characters think is happening. Although, as I mentioned, the only way the movie makes sense is if it's all imaginary, because there is

You know what they call the guy who graduates last in his class from medical school?

Exactly. Better safe than sick... or dead.

So what level of salinity would you need? How many ppm of dissolved salts (of any type) would account for what what we saw in the movie? I don't recall offhand other substances dissolved in water that would A) still allow it to behave like water, 2) allow you to walk upright on it, and III) result in wildly variable

Could have used Batman in Keene recently. #ThePumpkinFestivalWeDeserve

This episode broke me. I've only really half-watched the show because it's mostly torture and murder porn, but seriously, this show and Rian Murphy can go to hell.

We're being punk'd by the Oort Cloud.

I assume it's like Tony's Mark 42 armor in Iron Man 3.

This is the benefit of real life: you can pair up Master Chief and Barbie immediately.

The only reason you can see the light around Gargantua is because it's actively warping spacetime.

This is the part that bugs me about apologists for this movie: on one hand we can literally *see* the effects of the gravity of the black hole affecting the water, yet they maintain that Kip Thorne claims the gravity wasn't an issue. If it weren't an issue, then why was an hour on the planet the equivalent of 7 years

That's not even possible. Water is water the universe around.

Yes. It's crazy.
