The 35 has been performing it’s flight test since the 2012 re-baseline on schedule for the most part. Software on this scale is unprecedented as is devolpingskill three planes at once. The gun is not operative not because there is any problem just that the services decided to prioritize other capabilities.

The problem is it wont last past one gun run in an actual conflict with modern SAMs and SPAAGs the slow moving low flying craft would get shredded trying to perform its original role against modern forces.
They’re not great in proximity to modern air defenses.
Eventually they will become irrelevant, the problem is that you can either put money into things that will help you 10 years from now out through the 2050s, or you can put money into something that will help you RIGHT NOW, but not so much in 10-15 years.
