“And the majority of the time you won’t know and it won’t affect you in any way.”
That’s the point I was trying to make, counter to the vaporous comments calling people with ASPD killers just waiting to happen.

1% of females and 3% of males with ASPD isn’t common, but it’s not rare at all. If you go out in public on any given day, you’re going to encounter people with ASPD.
Oh my god. You are all over this thread speaking for the experience of people with antisocial personality disorders (there is no clinical diagnosis of “psychopath,” btw, which I’d think someone with your expertise would know.). I apologized for hurting your feelings. Take it or don’t but you can lay off the lecturing…
I’m sorry if my comparison was hurtful; it certainly was not intended to be. I was (clumsily, it seems) only comparing the “faking it” behaviors. Behavioral therapy can help both populations navigate social situations more smoothly, regardless of the difference in internal emotional experience. I am not personally on…
Socio/psychopaths are all around us, every single day, functioning in society. Most people with an antisocial personality disorder aren’t murderers or monsters. They’re just folks with a condition. They know they aren’t quite like everyone else. Like Aspies, antisocial personality disordered people can fake social…
I’m sorry for your hurts, too. I hope you have the support and help you need.
I’m sorry for what you went through, too. It’s not a club anyone should have to be in, but it does help to know we aren’t alone.
I can only speak for myself, but here’s my experience: I was raped while blacked out. I have only flashes of memory. One, really—the tattoo on his forearm. It was hugely upsetting to wake up and realize something had happened to me, but I couldn’t remember what. That’s its own mental wound to cope with. Therapy helped…
Good to know! I hope those kids went in prepared.
That had to be a total mindfuck. All those skulls staring at you, reminding you of exactly how screwed you are if help doesn’t come. I wonder if they could even see! Their phones would have died fairly early on, if they were using them for lights. OMG, trapped in the dark with millions of skeletons for DAYS. That’s…
A+ Every star. Moar Tenacious D.
I’m also a SC’ian, a child of Baby Boomers. When I was growing up, a good friend lived two doors down. Her parents were hippies—already the Old Guard by mid-late 80's. Dad still had long hair. They smoked in bed (cigarettes, and probably more). They were the first vegetarians I ever knew. They didn’t go to church…
I would be all over a future-tech innovator. Sexy electric cars and goddamn rockets?!? My nips are perking already, before I even get to that sensual bank account.
She really did. I read so many of those books, hoping and waiting for them to regain the glory of Outlander. I think I liked the first 2-3, read through 5, hated myself enough to start 6, then loved myself enough to stop early in the book. So disappointing!
Thank god. This is exactly the book club we need in this, the summer of our discontent.
The mayor of Pittsburgh wants no part of this nonsense:
I totally agree with his sentiment. The conversation could certainly be more focused on the original targets of the harassment, and on white supremacy and hate crimes more generally. I’m going to donate to the fund he linked. In this particular situation, one of the girls (the one in hijab), has remained anonymous, as…
Oh my god, this story. THIS STORY!!! All the stars for you and your dad.
I’ve heard that before about the naked heads and necks. Evolution is cool in the functionality department! It’s the red head with the beady black eyes against the black feathers that does me in. It’s the same shade of red (and overall color scheme) as Tim Curry’s character Darkness in the movie Legend. Not that I…
That’s a handsome vulture! We have turkey vultures around here, and I find their looks to be, frankly, unsettling. I love them for what they do (thanks for taking care of that roadkill rabbit by my curb, guys!), but they skeer me a little.
