Could be. But more so, that Apple will leave out certain features or options, and when people ask about it, they're told that Apple doesn't feel that they need it (along those lines). Only to release an update the following year, with those features that were missing.

Sometimes it's also the carrier's fault. When I had my G1 on Rogers. We never got the 1.6 update, yet others did. And when 2.2 and 2.3 came out, my HTC Magic was stuck on 2.1. I had to root to get the updates.

I remember seeing black and white versions, but never a bronze/brown one.
