Yeah, I’ve actually been saying this particular thing now for years.

I’ve in general given myself a limit on my personal spending. I stuck to my limit and even underspent a little! It was a good challenge, and it’s made me spend a little more time looking at my budget each day, which was really helpful. Like you said, Kristin, it seems like the challenging areas are the ones that you

Yeah, I’ve found pirated copies of every translation I’ve done into Portuguese. It’s pretty common down in Brazil. I’m not a fan of work my friends and I want to distribute freely being sold, but I know it’s going to happen either way. I’m not actively going to try and fight it.

Right! It’s amazing how much it’s accepted and expected in so many other professional areas, but somehow people seem to act like it’s some crazy, outlandish idea that the games industry start to show some general professionalism.

So, that’s not true, on several levels. Microsoft was having a party in connection with events that had gone on during the day. It wasn’t after a work-day, but after those events.

Microsoft hardly needs to resort to things like this for publicity, and it’s not exactly winning them a ton of new, loyal customers, either.

Doubtful. Both girls in the shot were dressed the same.

Yeah, I see where you are coming from. It’s important to take things like this into account. But the games industry is particularly under the spotlight for this kind of behavior, and partially because it still happens so often.

Well, there is a stereotype of men trying to overcompensate for their privilege by being overly vocal about injustices people around them point out. But this isn’t really an issue only based around women’s perspectives. There are plenty of people from any gender who would can find unprofessional conduct offensive or

Look, I’m not saying you’ve gotta be sensitive to how people feel about things ALL the time. But this is work-related kind of stuff. It’s baffling to me that people can’t see the separation here!

Like Kamina Vincent said, sure, dancing is fun. The more people in that room dancing and having a good time, the better. But I think you can pull that off without paying people to be provocative and potentially alienating some who would have had a good time.

If Microsoft is paying for the party, or putting their name on the party, or suggesting that their employees or prospective clients or employees attend a party, then this sort of thing shouldn’t happen. Why? Because if it does, it is skewing exclusive and targeted, and in a way that is pretty obviously going to make

So, I know the eye-rolling for some people is going to start. But let me just say: This was not the time or place for this sort of thing. There could potentially be a time and a place for this sort of thing, but it’s NOT at an event associated with professional endeavors, even in the gaming industry. It’s not okay.

Well, this is interesting... Not sure how Sony is going to go about this without alienating their existing user base. Perhaps this will have the VR processor unit built-in and have slightly upgraded hardware. If that’s the case, though, I’m going to be sad I bought my PS4 last year...

That’s really too bad. Switching between teams is way more convenient in the app than the web interface.

I was going to bring the dad humor to the thread, but I see you beat me to the punch.

I came to the comments basically to say exactly this. I don’t know how people can be in a job and not feel that this is the case. Checking my email first thing lets me make sure there is nothing pressing or that I forgot about before I launch into my work, because once I start working I tend to ignore everything else.

Yeah, that’s true. It’s going to be an uphill battle to get myself in and making enough money to support my current situation, but I think it’s doable. I’m definitely going to give it my best shot!

Stuff like this is hard for me to read. I have been working on a project in my free time for several months now and someday I’d like to transition into game development, but I’m definitely holding on to my day job. I started my career in the games industry and it was already brutal then, even as part of a major,

Super Mario 64 ran surprisingly well, but you can definitely tell it was frameskipping a ton. So close to getting that N64/PSX stuff running well, but not quite! Anything newer than that may be running okay, but it’s likely going to regularly hit issues and slowdown.
