I have some serious reservations about this project. I don't know that I trust the guys who made Dungeon Siege to make an ARPG anymore. Beyond that, the last game the tried to do a RTS/Action hybrid that I remember is Brutal Legend... and as much as I loved that game, the gameplay had its VERY frustrating moments.

Those numbers are telling, but they are from a time period when Valve was just getting started in this process. Expect those numbers to grow significantly now.

I installed Windows 8 on an SSD that I had just installed, so I don't know how much the startup time is influenced by that, but it really is incredibly fast. 15 seconds and I'm already in.

So far I have enjoyed the experience I've had with Windows 8 with Start8 installed. The only irritation I have, really, is I am still finding file types that are set to open with Metro programs by default, and when I open them I end up in Metro land for a few seconds. No biggie.

I've seen them live a couple times, and that was all before the Scott Pilgrim stuff. They were awesome, even back then. Their show put me into a certain state of digital euphoria, and they've stayed pretty solid ever since then.

Great points. I also think that the efficiency and flexibility of the dev process also makes the console's hardware a bit less relevant today, but you're right, the next gen will probably benefit from that. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I don't necessarily agree that people want those big game experiences only at home. When at home I don't get much time to use the main television, so I use my PSP a lot (Yes, the old PSP, though I just got a 3DS, going to start using it soon).
