As someone with congenitally shaky hands, I am truly in awe of a good phlebotomist. I just can’t imagine that a machine would ever be as good as the really good ones. The trouble is, if the process is automated, it’s not just the bad ones which will be displaced.

Nope. That's for the 84-87 models. The vacuum operated such things as the automatic choke and the dashpot which kept the throttle open on downshift. The 1st gen, civic didn't have those.

I would speculate that they decided that for now, while they'll mostly be crashing and burning, it's safer to do it on a barge, far away from civilisation and surrounded by water. Maybe when they get better at it they'll move to landing on land. (As for myself, I think I'll stay grounded to the ground)
