I admit to knowing nothing about Mindy Kaling, but from what I've heard of her new show thus far (her character swooning over white guys/her character surrounding herself with white folks while clowning the lone Indian [or is it the only character of color as well] character) - it sounds like just another perpetuation

Not that I'm a fan of this latest showing of culture vultures, but Gawker Media sure have been ragging on them from day one and I'd love to know the real reason behind it.

1. Aw, man! Hearing about Edward Quartermaine's (the only one that I knew since he'd started around the same time that I started watching that soap) passing is yet another blow to my childhood memories. I surely hope that they bid him a fond farewell on the show - especially since the real AJ Quartermaine is coming

Dreadful, isn't it?

In some ways, it's a sign of the times (6 million viewers being a victory in this day and age vs. it being the death knell for a sitcom/drama back in the day). In other ways, it definitely is depressing to see a network that ruled the ratings game during my childhood and teen years barely being able to hang on during

nic10 pretty much beat me to explaining my initial comment, though I'll add that the true diversity that they conveyed in their programming at the time played a large part in why NBC catapulted from last place to first place during that era (though some would rather not admit that).

I'm in the wait-and-see camp, as time will whether Ms. Igbokwe will be able to bring NBC back to its late 80s-early 90s glory or if her purpose is to simply lip service to the 'more colorful' tag that this network has been pretending to live up to for years.

I don't see how anyone thinks any good can come from physically harming your child, but then again there are no intelligence or compassion requirements for procreating.

I'm sure that Gawker is throwing a star-studded parade right about now since their very existence seems to have hinged on whether Mr. Cooper would ever come out or not.

No need to apologize for the rant, as you pretty much hit the nail on the head.

That'd freak me out, too. ;)

I honestly can't put it into the most accurate of descriptions, so the best thing that I can come up with is the sound that one makes to express their annoyance by pursing their lips and making a sound through pushing their tongue against the inside of their teeth.

I find it curious how many people are falling over themselves to give him the benefit of the doubt after he made his intentions quite clear.

And you're one of many living examples of a Klan mentality.

Ah, nothing like being dismissive to put folks in their place.

I'm not sure how pointing out that stale-assed stereotyping of Black women isn't 'subversive' is being being "oversensitive". If anything, this is the latest example of the normalization/justification of the constant disrespect of Black women.

Basically.

I can only speak on this particular story, but this description of his Black female character or her involvement in this plot doesn't sound any fresher or different than what mainstream entertainment has presented for almost a century.

Precisely. He (and those that defend this shit) is full of it.

Oh, I understood it - I simply didn't find it funny.
