I can't imagine that any civilization would not want to make contact with any other civilization except for as an act of self defense (e.g. fear).

That is an excellent point. Other life might not have that desire to explore; or a need to. That said, though, I wonder how much the desire to explore is tied to the raise of a civilization. If they did not have the desire would they still develop into an advanced civilization or not?

I weep for any future civilization that has us as gods...

Unfortunately, neither do I. But survival pressures may end up suprising us. We are the way we are now because we don't have a lot of basic survival pressure on us as a species.

Might be possible; might not be possible. What you want (e.g. what is "acceptable") is not relevant. It is a distinct possibility.

Rewatch Jersey Shore, go to WalMart, then come back and tell me how much faith you have that we will survive our own extinction.

Aieieiei!!!!

There are a ton of reasons. I am just thinking "what if the reason there is no evidence is that it's too hard" as one of them.

Funny, but in all seriousness I can't imagine that any race would ignore contact with another. I also can't imagine that there is not a lot of life out there. But I can imagine us all being flame of civilizations burning out on little islands too far away to get to each other in a huge ocean.

Yeah, I want to not believe it. But to me it is the most simple explanation. And it fits with what we know so far.

Would we? Space is BIG. Even if there are billions of probes out there it's a drop of water into an ocean.

I am thinking that civilizations die out before they get to tackling that enormous challenge.

That assumes that they CAN spread out. What if the challenges to spreading out are too insurmountable? What if that is the limiting factor?

What is wrong with the idea that there may be plenty of civilizations but they did not solve the problems of interstellar distance? Maybe we have not been visited because there exists to practical way to solve the problem of interstellar travel.

The whole lightning adapter thing is a cash cow for Apple. They are not going to play fair when then can eek out extra money from their users.

I'm American and nevermind grades, your profile picture looks like it wants to give me an epileptic fit...

I am sad that this is the case. I never beat my kid for a bad grade. I expect good grades and he always has an A or B. But I never beat him because of a B.

Shaper/Mechanist

I'd say all his movies except Piranha II were good movies. Yes, I am including Avatar.

Whereas I am massively excited. I would love to see what modern CGI could do to make it look like Godzilla was actually here.
