I wonder if it has to do with security or rather control of Japanese market.
That is a hot car, many would be eager to resell it for profit, especially overseas.  We see it in USA now, now new cars gets resold as “used” for significant markup.

You cannot just get into semiconductor business. It requires very very significant investment and technology competence. China as big as it is, struggles to compete with high-end manufacturing.
So I significantly doubt Tesla can do much.

Take a look at tsmc roadmaps and you can see that they are already growing

It is not just cost of goods that need to be considered. Consider vehicle being sold at discount (or even at loss) but with features disabled.
For some people it could be enough, some will just “enable them” down the road.
It is happening to some degree already. Easier to buy same more advanced part and just limit it,

I was confused about it too. Too young to be boomer, too old to be trendy, 100% fan of original NFS series.

Repairability is a very dirty word in industry today. It seems manufacturers are making it more and more difficult to repair things. Not only that, but it is also perfect excuse to void the warranty.
Build in obsolescence is one problem, other is production optimization. We are all too familiar with clips that are

I find it more ergonomic to mess with seat controls by the seat. It feels normal as manually adjustable seats also have controls in same place. Plus sliding joystick or bar moves seat in same direction.
As for people with memory seats, not many cars have them and every time I get my car cleaned or serviced, somebody

One thing to keep in mind that EU speed limits are actually quite reasonable and roads support them. There are many stretches of roads that go for 80mph speed limit. City speed limits are actually more limited but EU also doesn;t have typical large American streets.
So speed warning is not so bad, because they have so

Laws are idiotic these days. There should be safety standards for vehicles operating on public roads, that’s it. If vehicle wants to move ridiculous on private property, let them. If they want to look fancy while parked, let them. Problem is only when they are moving on public roads. As much as I dislike that trend, I

When considering like, you know, rest of the world, people use metric units. You don’t have to look far, just a bit north or a bit south. Most publications list both knowing readers can be foreign

I quickly glanced at test setup from and clearly camera will work just fine in those perfect lab conditions, see below

Can you update with Celsius? Not all are fluent in Fahrenheit.

I was hoping it was more of a regular car. It tries to be different, but in the end, it just has lots of frustration. Stupid details as electronic door actuation, cheap driver window control or extremely leggy infotainment.

I wish they did for that part

Repairability is something consumable electronics despise and it looks like automotive industry is picking up. I don’t mind clips that can be easily detached, but I prefer fasteners. Also I prefer parts that can be taken apart, fixed or refurbrished instead of dumped.

Did they fix the laggy UI? I couldn’t stand how slow it was.
Also couldn’t get used to rear window selector and just pure electronic door handles.

That’s why I am always anxious when returning car without post-inspection. As they can come up with anything. Even in policy, it states, that if car gets damaged on their lot after you dropped it off, you are still on hook till they actually inspect/signoff on it.

You can take pictures, video of car, but you cannot

I like how they have solution to the problem that doesn’t exist.

2002 Audi A4 3.0 (Slow). over 230k miles. It is an Audi, never really known for longevity. Engine was moody, even hydro-locked at some point, but simply wouldn’t die. Everything was working rather well, although it was on jackstands every other weekend. I was hoping it would give me reason to get rid of it, but it

Didn’t BMW or Mercedes already entertain the idea of having features behind monthly subscription? Stop paying and your car reverts to basic model?
Also, I think Tesla is pulling something like that when they actually disable features on used cars so you can buy upgrade.

Either way, car subscription offers zero value, in

There is again those grey areas.
