People stopped reading newspapers it’s what killed the where I was from, demand for newsprint crashed, mills closed. The newsprint industry was weird the newspapers set the price, they called up and said “Send us 35 boxcars of paper we’ll pay X” The company making the paper did not set the price.

Where I lived, you walked into a $20 an hour job at the mill in the mid 80s you could afford it.

I lived in a Mill Town at the time, it went like this, Graduate High School (Because you had to graduate HS to work in the mill) get a job at the mill, rent a singlewide trailer buy either a loaded 4x4, Mustang GT or Iroc Z
