Coincidentally enough I've been fucking around with timelapse software and made something similar today. I like mine better, tbh. Still seizuriffic though.

The orb is better than a fresnel because it is spherical, meaning the point of foucs can change without the orb needing to move, only the small pv cell. If you did this with a large lens, the entire lens/pv cell would have to track the sun. The energy required to move the large lenses mitigates the energy produced.
