One of the reasons we are less harsh on games than we are on other media (art, music, movies, books) is that games are not a closed system. That is, they are designed to be interacted with. The sheer machination that is interactivity completely changes the overall enjoyment factors.
The ammount of time and effort put into something should not be a factor when judging the final product.

Desktop view is worthless? How exactly is it any different from the Desktop in Windows 7? It is literally the same thing, only difference is the start menu was replaced with the start screen.
