Well said. Some people are dumb enough to believe whatever the media puts out there it seems.

Yep, the fear-mongering continues. The ambulance chasers are going crazy, and Jalopnik seems to be one of them. Plus, it's the NY Times, so basically if you take the complete opposite of what they print, you'll be way closer to the truth.

Cars don't just magically swerve into trees, idiots who can't control a car in a panic situation where the power steering shuts of cause cars to swerve into trees.

Help me out, sudden power loss certainly explains the malfunctioning air bag, but how does it explain the sudden swerve? What am I missing here?

Another gossip piece based on a gossip piece.

Can you prove that's why those people died? There's your answer.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that although the disabled airbags may have been directly responsible for the fatality, they did not cause the car to swerve or impact with the tree.

Your article thoroughly confuses me. The Ion swerved into a tree and you're saying that it had nothing to do with the driver being on Xanax, but was due to the fact that the car suddenly lost power, disabling it's airbags?

How about a pothole sensor? I live in Chicago which is basically pothole central after the winter, especially after this past winter, I'm sure you've heard of Chi-beria.

A car is a dead machine, it doesn't have the ability to consciously kill, let alone do, anything without influence from the driver or some other force (automatic systems and electronics are a separate topic).

THANK YOU, PonchoIndian!! I really don't know why the authors on this site (along with the ignorant media in general) continue to ignore the facts and simply blame GM. The fact of the matter is that if you do stupid things like drive drunk, unbuckled, while speeding (sometimes twice the limit) with waaay too much

Directly responsible for the deaths of 13 people? No, actually. But did they fall precisely one step short (among thousands) in designing vehicles that did everything humanly possible to prevent owners from their own negligence, ineptitude, and poor driving skills? Yes.

An airbag is a SUPPLEMENTARY safety system.

I feel like a broken record.

It's got the EcoTec3 which is a Gen V engine (LTx based), the Gen IV stuff was still called "Vortec". That means it's got direct injection, variable valve timing, and the cylinder deactivation (although that isn't new to the Gen V). It'll be interesting to see how much these truck 5.3s (and the LT1 of course) go for

Surprisingly, the bench seating option is still available for the Suburban.

What's the purpose of these large exhaust tips? While I'm at it, what's with the finned sections on Ford Super Duty exhaust tips?

Neutral: Will we ever know how many people really died from the ignition switch failure?
