yup, also grew up in NY (although southern tier, not western) and we had one in every school. She did all you say, and also got to deal with kids who were faking it all day. lol!

in New York State there must be a school nurse on staff at every school. I think some city school districts in poorer areas share (like 1 nurse for 2 or 3 schools), but most have one who sits in her office all day and helps out when a kid gets sent to her.

the sad part is most of these people see a reporter or a camera (or even a coworker who made the mistake of lingering near the work break room too long) and they just babble.
