Apple's walled garden isn't much better. Hell, the App store removes/doesn't approve so many things you would think they are burning books in Cupertino (not before they sold you a digital copy, mind you).

I think that Android falls into the 'tinkerer' category - for the most advanced users. My relatives that can't even turn on their DVD/TV/home theater combination in a functional manner somehow get their Android phones loaded with apps and use Facebook, get online, etc. So obviously its getting better. ;)
