It’s not like Japan doesn’t have similar avenues for letting off steam. In rural settings their Summer festivals are very raucous with lots of drinking and physical effort carrying are “mikoshi” (portable shrines) or pulling “dashi” (large festival wagons). Some festivals are even close to officially sanctioned…
