Another thought: I’ve seen data that suggests coaches are at their best in their 30s and early 40s, at the same time mental function in general is at its best. The NFL almost never gives meaningful coaching jobs to coaches that young. In fact age is probably a big part of why Kyle Shanahan hasn’t gotten a HC gig.

The best QBs in the league at a given time will almost always be disproportionately old. That’s simply because you don’t last in the league in a meaningful way without being good.

Has there ever been a time when there wasn’t a shortage of QBs? I don’t think there has been, at least not in anything resembling the modern era. The scarcity is nothing new, the NFL is just coming up with new theories as to why that is. If anything they’re probably making it worse by failing to adapt.

His point isn’t about this specific incident though. It’s just broadly true. The Falcons were only fined 350K for the fake crowd noise. That’s nothing to the organization as a whole. But many players could get suspended for one game and lose more than that. It’s hugely unbalanced.
