Honestly, I was immediately thinking about what kind of story I might tell that would work best in a Minecraft universe. Here's what I came up with:

As a big fan of the classic Metroid series, and part of a studio making our own Metroid-ish game, this is relevant to my interests.

I really don't think it's a commentary on disconnect between gameplay and story in modern games, or at least not trying to be. Pretty sure it's just a shock value sketch (And a rather tame one, honestly)
No more than any other RPG.
It doesn't even make sense as a parody of the game. Suddenly everything you do is a random encounter? I mean, don't they realize you DO meet NPCs in the game too? That's what every one of these characters would be.
That was... shockingly unfunny. Was this really produced by Fox? Because that was incredibly disappointing; The end result of someone who really didn't know what they were doing with the source material.
I dunno. I kinda like the absurdity of the evil leader of Zynga being the dog from their logo. Seems quite appropriate.
