Totally agree - I'm not sure if it's laziness or if it's truly a trend, but I'm quickly souring of a lot of these retro themed games. I've got a powerful PC and a couple strong consoles - in a way I'm kinda paying for the ability to show great graphics and hear great sound.

I've always liked sandbox games - but not the way that they get you into their world. I agree the mini maps and HUD's are intrusive, but they're a part of the game that quite honestly some gamers do require, due to age or lack of familiarity with certain landscapes.
