Thank you for this. It is heartbreaking to me that this man lived a simple life so he could give back to the institution that he loved, and they took a giant dump on his memory.

This man scrimped and saved up his entire life so he could leave a nice bequest to the institution that he loved. I highly doubt that if he knew it would go to a freaking scoreboard, he would want it.

The kinds of people who are able to make this sort of switch aren’t those stuck in dead-end jobs but hoping to start their own business, because that loan interest wouldn’t be the one thing keeping them from doing it.

My annoyance with this plan is that it’s an unfair benefit to those who very likely don’t need an extra push of support from our government. Why should some people get an extra huge benefit from our government that’s going to come on the backs of other, more needy students?

Except, student loan interest in an extreme burden, so why give a group of privileged people this extra benefit?

Okay, but an actual poor person isn’t going to be able to start a small business right after college, so this only benefits rich kids.

Okay, but in this instance, there were multiple generations of educated professionals, and from a time when a degree was basically a guarantee of a good income for life. It’s nothing compared to people working as social workers now.

Her father was a physician. So, upper class, not middle.

It’s my unpopular opinion that no one should be judgment-proof.

So certain cities will reimburse victims, and there are federal funds for rehabilitation and counseling. It’s not that the entire government leaves victims, it’s more that victims have costs beyond what the government can and will pay.

Cinemark was willing to settle.

Cinemark was actually willing to settle with the victims, even though they had no reason/legal or otherwise, to do so. There was one holdout - the woman whose 6-year-old was killed in the shooting declined the settlement, even knowing that this was a possibility.

Which, BTW, either of those circumstances is legally rape.

Eh she sort of had a point up until the moment that you realize that Nate Parker and Ryan Lochte both got away with something, although Lochte had more cultural importance at the time of his alleged crime and didn’t rape anyone, while Parker destroyed a life.

Yes, we reject everything about “unrepentant rapists”. I’m not lining the pockets of a man who will never, ever have to pay for his crime, especially knowing that a.) he and his-corapist wrote a RAPE SCENE into the movie when there was none in Turner’s history and b.) his victim died due to the trauma from being

But ... isn’t her character just yet another plot device where men get to grow because women are raped? IIRC, isn’t it true that her character has no actual dialogue?

Actually, IIRC, the victim absolutely wanted to proceed, but the DA did not.

I’m not. The rapist is using a rape survivor as a shill. Disgusting.

No, you catcall them because you believe that women are obligated to act as pleasure objects for you.

My neighborhood farmer’s market is from 3 - 7 (and it’s pretty much dunzo by 6) on Thursday nights. It sucks ass. I haven’t made it once.
