I tried to report a cab driver for following me while flipping me off and cursing at me out the window (I was walking in a parking lot, and he apparently thought not fast enough). I reported him, and his dispatcher refused to put a manager on and then told me it was my fault.

I dislike cabs because, frankly, cab drivers are rude and will often just leave you if they think they’ll get a better fare from someone else. I once had a cab driver lock the doors and refuse to let me out because I had a card ... illegal in my city.

I don’t disagree that the writing was pretty bad/ridiculous, I was more reacting to the flood of comments linking Smart with Missing White Woman syndrome, which is in amazingly poor taste.

As a woman, I do think that being kidnapped and repeatedly raped by a crazy man is pretty much the worst thing that can happen to me. I imagine it’s that way for most women.

Just chiming in to correct you - in our state, PA, you don’t ask the DA for a restraining order. There are DV units in our courthouses that can get an emergency order (24 hours/day!) and they last until a hearing, which is within 2 weeks.

Oh I totally agree with you on that. I really did think that it was Megan because of the local reporting. There was also another murder-suicide in south Jersey (relatively close) and that was immediately reported as Dad killing his wife and son. That’s why I was honestly sure it was her.

I still find it strange that they kept all the information private in order to let Mark Short’s family have a funeral for him.

Honestly, I was. There was another murder-suicide here a few days after the Short killings, and in that announcement, they immediately pointed at the father as the killer.

I assume that the fact that she needs to live in a group home showed that she has a limited capacity to make decisions for herself and may lack the legal ability to consent.
