Saw one of Buick’s “Luxury Small Crossover”s today. Thought it was a Kia or maybe even an older suzuki little SUV thing. Had to get real close to read what it actually was, went “Oh yeah, I remember that thing”.

Bit of both. Submarine propellers are at the rear of the sub. These make VERY MUCH NOISE INDEED, so much the hydrophones cant hear anything really directly behind the sub. These areas are called the "baffles" So occasionally a submarine might steer erratically to see if there are any super sneaky folks behind them…
