Yep, Maher and West are old friends. Maher is also friends with Anne Coulter (:shivers:). It’s cool they can disagree and still get along at the end of the day. And yes, I never understood the ‘Hillary’s as bad as Trump’ bullshit that Sanders supporters flung out there. Uh . . . what? It’s surprising that an elder

What I like most about Real Time is that it harkens back to the days where people were allowed to disagree with each other without being turned into pariahs. It is the only political show I can think of on air that allows different types of viewpoints.

Bill Maher is problematic as fuck, but I agree he’s not the worst thing anyone’s parents could be watching. My mom has Fox News on practically every waking hour of the day. I’d take Maher over that any day of the week.

Cherokee here, and I agree. It’s very nice to have more representation and I appreciate it.

Also a Native American (not that it matters), and I belong to a southern tribe that doesn’t use totem poles like you typically see in the Northwest. That being said, I personally see nothing wrong with such a skin ( I use it because I know what it represents) and I find it pretty lame that Blizzard now has to write

Your opinion is teh only one that matters. Thank you. All these white folks running around being offended for us, like we are retarded children and they are our parents.

Native American Here, Cheyenne with a dash of Sioux. Lived on a Kupa / Cahuilla reservation most of my life. My first thought when I saw the skins was “Oh crap, thats an awesome skin.” Not boohoo my culture boohoo. Its done awesomely and I’m angry that I still have yet to get them in the boxes.

I truly hope someday we humans can figure out the proper difference between cultural appropriation and cultural representation. Thank you for taking the representation route, the Internet needs more positive folks like you.

But the implication of her Surname (As well as annas) is Amari, which has roots in Hebrew, Native-America and Japan.

We can rule out Japan and Hebrew as potential influences purely from the fact that Pharrah doesn’t have any white/Asian complexion built into her design, and the fact that she’s always had the Native

I am of Cherokee heritage and I love those Pharah skins. I use the Thunderbird skin on her. My grandfather always sent me native american things so I read about the Thunderbird legend as a kid so I have an affinity for it.

As a privileged white college graduate who has never had to struggle or work for anything in my life, I’m so upset on your behalf, and am frankly disgusted that our imperialistic society has tricked you into accepting the appropriation of your culture to sell video games.

I try to keep these sorts of controversies at arm’s length (at the closest), but reading this article really took the wind from my sails today. As a person with native heritage who codes white, playing Pharah with Thunderbird is a subtle way that I express that part of myself. When I first encountered the skin, I

As someone of Chinese heritage I agree with you completely and understand your love of the skin. Sometimes it’s not about the character themself (afterall if the character who matches your ethnicity doesn’t match your playstyle you’re kind of SOL o it). But if someone you enjoy playing has some cosmetic items so you

Native American art is AMAZING. (I’m a huge fan of the Northwestern region of art in particular) and I do love it being represented. It’s not my place to say when/how it gets represented but it’s awesome that it’s in a hugely popular game.

I’m Indian and Canadian and this sums up how I feel so much better than the article. There are SO few games where I can play characters that actually look like me, and almost none where that’s not a result of character customization. Critiquing aspects of the skins constructively is bad, just saying you want them

As someone who has Native American blood (Snohomish), and was raised in an Native American community (Tlingit/Haida of SE Alaska). My opinion on the skins, long before there was any hint of actual ties were simply this:

Now playing

These conversations are important and help generate pressure against bad or shallow representations of people.

The thing that bugs me about the Pharah one is that there was alot of thought put into that and alot of research. Its Indegenous canadian.

Why can’t they just have cool outfits? Why should they even have to be justified? Should we scrub the Journey to the West outfits because they were put on characters who have no relationship to Chinese ancestry?

I wouldn’t wanna work at Blizzard, most of all on Overwatch. Probably can’t take a piss without someone getting offended about it.
