Did you know that since 1990 American prisons have become much bigger and the violent crime rate has fallen? Harsher sentences seem to be corelated to less violent crime in the USA.
While light sentencing might be the right move for Norway, I don't think it's wise to generalize their approach to other countries.

I grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, and Bobby Knight has been a small part of my life for as long as I can remember. I don't think about the guy much any more, but every now and then, the red-sweatered shouter turns up in an unexpected place. That said, he has perhaps never turned up somewhere this unexpected.
