This would be a super cool project. However, without a good source for parts, you’re going to struggle with any project. Toyotas don’t have a great sources for 15-year old parts, much less 54-year old parts.

I moved from California to Michigan about 6 or 7 years ago due to the high cost of living. Though I left the tumultuous aerospace industry, not the tech industry. Cali has it’s appeals, but its not for everyone all the time.
