The point is an action can fail even if it seems mundane. In the case of “reading a dog’s tags” the failure could be “you startle the dog and it bites you.”

That’s all built around a human DM who can think on the fly.

Okay, but then what's even the point of the game's format? Why have any sort of stats outside of what you need for combat if you're able to just pick your path through dialog regardless?

A game, unlike a live DM, doesn't have the ability to rewrite the game on the fly, though. There's gotta be some finite structure in order to be a complete and functional game.

What I’m seeing sure seems like a lot of people who’ve never played D&D really mad this game has accurately captured D&D.
