I think what makes it is the 0% irony. If they smirked at the camera even once, it would fail. But they seem to be going all in on the source material. This is one show where a Cisco would ruin it—it needs to start out irony free.

Pretty much everything you wrote could equally have been applied to The Flash pilot and The Flash turned out awesome.

I freaking loved the trailer, but I’m a guy so maybe I see it differently. Granted it was a bit cheesy, but she reminds me of Felicity Smoak.

Maybe water is more common than we imagined, but ice doesn’t necessarily mean frozen water. There are a lot of other compounds that can form ice. They didn’t say water ice. Of course it could be...but it could be some other kind of ice if it’s ice at all.
