I’m glad you’re happy with it.

Granted, by then you’d have sunken hundreds of hours into it, but there’s nothing more to break. All the parts are new!

David Tracy:

Thanks for clarifying. That’s way bigger than I thought, but given the huge differences overall it can’t all be stuff like an ounce here and an ounce there.

I’m glad you’re happy with yours. Bikes are about more than their spec sheets, for sure - I rock a bike that was one of the fastest in the market... 42 years ago. Today it’s fat and slow, but I love it for its character & style.

Like, how is it possible that this bike:

Having held steel and aluminum swingarms (for both twin-shock and linkage type bikes) in my hands, there’s no way that’s a 20 lbs difference.

It’s even heavier. It’s outrageous. 460 lbs curb weight for the ABS version.

Was the stupid thermobob sorted in the last update?

This bike is way, way too heavy. Looks like a 0-purpose bike to me.

To give you the benefit of the doubt, the photo above is a CBX1000 - a transverse-mounted inline 6 cylinder motorcycle made from 1978-1982. A CX500 is a longitudinally-mounted V-twin bike from the early 80's. From the front they look like this:

I agree that the welds look fine, given that they’re visible. My position is that they shouldn’t be visible.

That Peloton costs less than a couple of years of gym membership, or an entry-level road bike with a power meter installed, or a set of rims for an F250.

IMO there’s a lot to like about those bikes, but I can’t forgive those gross welds at this price point from a brand where style is so central. Those wouldn’t look out of place on a cargo bike, or a Walmart MTB.

With a 6-into-1 they sound a bit like a 60's F1 car. The stock setup sounds good and distinctive, but doesn’t have that super high pitched wail.

Yes. With a 6-into-2-into-1 exhaust.

With the right exhaust, there is no sound on earth that comes as close to internal combustion perfection under $250k.

TIL he’s probably a natural-born citizen of the US.

As a parent, this fixation on getting babies to sleep through the night freaks me out. It’s so unnatural.

It is our project now to see it clearly.
