I suspect green onions might not trigger it as I've had food with them in it but no reactions I could tell if I did it was a mild reaction. White/yellow/purple onions are a definite though. Also even though it's in the same family Garlic doesn't trigger the reaction so it's definitely limited to particular species.

Actually I tend to substitute Garlic for Onions as I am not allergic to those, but to answer your question if I buy canned soup it's usually cream of chicken, occasionally I'll get Dinty Moore beef stew but outside of that I make my own soup.
