I strongly suspect they’ll run into some legal trouble with this. I very much doubt that Valve, Ubisoft, or EA want a 3rd party clients interacting with their back ends. I’m sure there are lines in the terms of service for all of them regarding backwards engineering and such.

Achievements have absolutely nothing to do with your Steam level. Steam level is not XBox gamerscore.

Regarding “bringing back DRM”, note that Steam itself is DRM...most of the time.

I doubt it would take long for a person constantly buying and refunding gift copies to be noticed as doing something inappropriate. I’m sure they have some internal monitoring that flags an account for review after it does X number of refunds.
