See, I’m looking at it in the opposite context- why would the PARENTS make one when they could have just used the rope, since it was a staging. An intruder set on brutally killing a child, that makes more sense to me. Who even knows of such a thing, if not to hurt other/are a deranged person?

I agree. As weird and suspicious as the parents were, its more outlandish to say that there was this massive coverup. It seems more likely to me (someone who eats up true crime stories) that an intruder is the simplest explanation...Occam’s Razor and all.
