The best strategy seems to be to not worry about piracy. It's going to happen no matter what developers do, so they're better off ignoring it and just trying to make the legit customers happy. I'm sure that some of the games they sell get pirated, but places like gog.com is still able to make money selling games…

Except that hackers will figure out how to unlock at least all the offline features and most likely the online matchmaking as well. So all they're really doing is punishing solo players with shitty internet connections.
