Microsoft has continually made the dashboard worse since the 360 came out, so this... is no surprise to hear. It's one of many reasons that for the first time in almost 20 years, I don't have all consoles in a given generation (Bone is the only one I'm missing atm)

It can be slog, if you're sloppy, but considering we had a group of 2 31s and 1 29, and got Valus with no burns in about 15 minutes? It wasn't as bad as you're describing.

and they could still solo it when they're matched up with randoms that'll either leave or go AFK, waiting to be carried, like what often happens when you do ROC strikes, or any other non-Nightfall strikes.
