That’s a poor analogy, did the US actively colonize other lands and is it stuck in an active conflict with people it displaced? A better analogy is like the US trying to claim it’s capital can be in Manilla and who cares what the residents think.

Unfortunately, a great deal of Americans like only one of his policies or another. He’ll ban abortion! He’ll lower taxes! He’ll give more money to Israel! He’ll deport those brown people! Those single-issue voters held their nose and voted for him, and are still hoping he will deliver.

Republicans seem to know deep down that repeals will raise insurance prices and destabilize the markets, but they just don’t care.
