Growing up in the 80s, a thousand miles away from Hollywood, we all knew that there were some kind of women who would make false accusations against powerful men so they could extort money out of them. Now I think, lordy, how many of those women were telling the absolute truth, and the PR architecture not only

Maple syrup is another great idea for the sweet potato bar. We have a family member who is allergic to butter (and orange juice, actually) so the sweet potato bar works well for her.

This is the solution to candied yams, which are really very good, but too rich, and no one will eat them any more. I've even made lightened versions of candied yams or sweet potatoes, and that's ok, but this is the hands-down winner:
Baked sweet potato bar.
I cut the biggest sweet potatoes/yams in half, and then throw

All references to this are now banned in my house because it made us all laugh until we cried, and then my daughter had an asthma attack. It is DANGEROUSLY funny.

Catching Fire is still my favorite. I thought it was a vast improvement on the book. I liked the book, but the movie gave it even more dimension.

Well, that's it then, I'm going to have to go see it again.

I agree. I thought even her compassion was somewhat calculated, but that's how someone with Coin's difficult history would be. There's really excellent writing and acting in the movie, that really builds on the books. It's so unusual for a movie to find ways to improve on a book, rather than having to simplify it!

Agreed!

She was the one I was most excited to see. Don't want to spoil but she ends up having a good role at the end of the last book. I hope they have a lot of her in part 2.

They beefed up Effie's role, but it's pretty interesting and I didn't find it at all problematic. I thought they made Effie slightly more sympathetic in Catching Fire the movie than she had been in the book, and that was an improvement, too. They made her more three-dimensional than she had been in the book. And hey:

I thought that was great, how Coin and Plutarch are the "good guys" but loathsome too. You can't trust anyone. Hoffman and Moore are such good actors and played it really well.

It will always be too soon for that joke.

He shaved his beard. Without the beard... meh. I'd been dating the beard.

Did they... take a picture together afterward? Just asking, no particular reason...

I absolutely love Wing Chun! I also watched the Heroic Trio series in the 90s - good fun. Michelle Yeoh is great in Supercop too. I didn't know about all these other movies. They're definitely going on my list.

I appreciate this, because the terminology of the "poaching" study is terrible. It makes the cheater sound like a person without volition, who had no choice but to be stolen away. I have been on both sides of this situation, and it's always clear who is cheating. Nobody's poaching or homewrecking. Someone's deciding

Ah, ok. Looks like he went to Columbia (http://www.tech-fin.org/shadan/), though he was unclear about that in his email to her. Initial post still stands: This is crappy business correspondence.

Shadan the recruiter went to Harvard?

It really depends on the situation, though. It is a close friendship that suddenly got frosty? Yes, adult conversation. But if it's been a slow cooling, plus distance, and other factors - sometimes just letting things cool off for a while works fine. As I commented further down, I ended up staying good friends with
