I read an article about her workout routine that gave me hope :-)

I can’t ask her to stay through Trump’s entire administration unless she genuinely wants to, but I really hope she hangs on until 2018. And then it’s up to all of us to defeat the unfavorable map and make 2018 a Democratic wave. We have no excuse for not knowing the stakes this time.
His rants about women leaving BigLaw jobs after getting pregnant cinched it for me. Anyone that blinkered to the many fairly obvious reasons why women might not return to high-level jobs after childbirth OTHER than “mooching lying ladies scamming for their kids and taking men’s jobs for kicks” shouldn’t be in…
This dude is only 2 years older than I am and he speaks like he just got home from a play date with Wally and the Beav. I have never said “golly” in my entire life.
A few weeks ago I went to see Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg speak at an event in DC. (Remind me to tell you sometime how I almost didn’t get in because of my empty bag, it was insane.)
Anyway, it was moderated by Nina Totenberg of NPR and she asked Justice Ginsburg about Gorsuch. The Notorious RBG paused for a long…
Yes, this. Employees are offered healthcare as part of compensation. For instance, when I was given my “compensation package” at my last job, it included my insurance costs, 401k matching, etc. So while my actual paycheck was X, my total compensation was Y. And not covering birth control under that insurance plan…
Well employer provided health insurance is generally considered part of your compensation. So I might frame the two as “the right to decide how to use your paycheck” vs “an employer’s right to decide how employees use their paychecks”.
If you were an alien just touching down in like, Arlington, Virginia, and wanted to look around to get a sense of…
Always remember that attachment parenting was invented by a fundie who thinks that women working outside the home is inherently traumatic to her children. There’s some good, useful stuff mixed in but it should all be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Says the lunatic who believes that there’s a “Pro-Marvel” conspiracy to shit on the objectively bad DCEU.
You’re on to something really important here. I feel like my husband, who is very successful in his profession, couldn’t possibly approach his job the way he approaches tasks in the house. Like, does his boss have to ask him to do something three times, finally slapping him on the leg to punctuate each word so that he…
And doing the work myself means we don’t fight. It just means I am too tired/resentful for sex sooo dudes listen up. Tired women don’t put out. Do some fucking chores if you want good sex y’all.
Yes. This. I “blame” maternity leave. Being at home for those 10-12 weeks meant I had to figure stuff out because it had to get done. But then my husband would come home and be like “Well, you know how to bathe him so I’ll let you do that.” Um, yeah, because I figured it the fuck out. You do the same!
It’s fine to do things differently as long as they get done
Yep. My husband is a doll, and he is probably more cognizant and respectful of the household equality problem than a lot of men. But I still have to resist the urge to thank him for getting the kid ready for school or walking the dog. It helps to remember that he never thanks me (nor should he).
2. You probably don’t understand how to change a diaper, handle breast milk/prepare formula, or any of the 80,000 other things involved in child-rearing. Figure it out or ask. Your wife doesn’t actually know as much as you think either, but she isn’t using that as an excuse to do nothing.
I am going to mutter “spot fucking on” over and over to myself as a calming mantra as I climb the ladder to clean out the gutters (that he knows are full, that I have asked him to clean for two weeks). If I don’t, the basement will flood and for sure I can’t get shitty and yell at him for not cleaning the gutters, so…
How Not to Hate Your Husband is a book for messy reality, but I can’t shake my frustration that its twin, written for men, isn’t out there somewhere: How to Keep Your Wife From Hating You After Kids.
I am a graduate student in sociology, and I have a lot of reading to do, all of the time. Since I started my PhD…
