“Layering problems with a character does take away from enjoyment.”
“Layering problems with a character does take away from enjoyment.”
Is that what has made us more cautious? Living through the AIDS plague? It makes a whole lot of sense to me...I’m a gay man and my co-worker is lesbian and we’re both well past 50 (which I find absurd), so we saw the horror and grief and lived with the constant undertone of dread and paranoia from the beginning when…
I don’t know what he did to make you mad, but he’s only onscreen for maybe a minute-and-a-half, and he’s not going to be coming back so you’re safe to watch from here on out.
I couldn’t agree with you more. I have a work collaborator/friend who survived cancer just a few years back, so she’s been very strict about keeping herself away from situations which could result in getting infected. She lives alone and refuses to go to any social gatherings or to even allow any friends into her…
The problem with eliminating the characters altogether is that they play pivotal roles in the story. They aren’t just side characters who don’t really matter.
Given your reasoning, they could just as easily make Nick a character who is able to hear and speak and the issues would be eliminated—I mean, if they are adapting the character to avoid making anyone feel uncomfortable about how the character was written, wouldn’t that eliminate the problem? That explanation doesn’t…
Holy fuck—it was just some advice to try to help you enjoy the episodes a bit more. No need to bite my fucking head off. If you don’t agree with the advice, then you don’t have to follow it.
I’m finding it hard to really understand your position—though I am trying. Your argument seems similar to those who seem to think that only gay people should play gay characters. It is simplistic thinking that can have very bad consequences, because if they started casting roles in that way, then it follows that gay…
OK. Don’t forget to turn in your badge at reception.
However it plays out, I just hope we get a lot more of Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec - she is formidable ... her and Temuera Morrison runnin’ shit on Tatooine for a season could be a lot of fun.
You’ve really got to learn to let go of your opinions about an actor’s real-life opinions in situations like these. Like, I don’t agree with her either, but I didn’t think about that at all during this episode. Which means, I really enjoyed it.
The Documentary Now! “Co-Op” episode is one of my favorite episodes of TV ever. I can’t even count how many times I’ve watched it at this point. And even though I know it’s supposed to be satire, I think that Hader, Armisen, Meyers, Mulaney, etc. should absolutely mount it as an actual Broadway musical. The songs are…
Glad to see Kingdom included. I think it is the most under-rated and under-watched series that no one has ever heard of, yet it without a doubt one of the greatest. Every actor hit it out of the park and the writing and characters were incredible. The characters were all complete train-wrecks, to be sure, but…
The only other show I can think off that started off as badly and went on to become great was Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. But even that show pales in comparison to how excellent HACF became. It’s one of the best TV series of all time.
That’s not really such a bad thing.
Well, let me relieve you of your pain. This review is complete bullshit.
Thank you!
Thank you--very helpful.
I know it’s all the rage in the comments for this show to hate on Burnham’s character. And there seems to be an ever-growing view of Saru as “the best.” I’m still in the small minority that likes Burnham and thinks Saru is the most milquetoast uninteresting character that the Star Trek universe has ever come up with.
So after the original 3, but before the Disney movies?
