It's just an overused word. Inverted snobs (certainly in the UK) who don't understand something, or mistrust it, immediately denounce it as pretentious, and it gets my goat.

It's only pretentious if there's a pretence. In this case, the work really is done by craftsmen who themselves would say 'chamfered'. So it's not.
