It sure got everyone’s attention, which I believe was precisely the point.

Baldwin’s reaction is like that republican lady who got all mad at Ana Navarro for saying pussy on the news when she was quoting Donald Trump - same misdirection, same reduction of the word to the single, most recent instance of it’s use while blatantly ignoring the referenced, and far more significant, use.

Eh, its one of those where she claimed she didn’t want it released - but it got a legit commercial video roll-out, which legally requires her consent. Just like Kim K - they released porn and then spun it as “stolen.”

I wouldn’t call it soul searching. When an election is this close, you have to analyze what went wrong and work to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

The flavor of Jezebel lately has been “circle the wagons” and “we ran a perfect campaign”. As goes our comments’ section, so goes the nation, I always say.

If you refer to a black person as an “ape” there is no way in HELL you are not being racist. I’m sorry. This is not a case of “you misread my comment thooo.” It’s blatant racism.

He will be in January bitch

We ran a candidate whom everyone hates and when she lost, our response has largely been to get angry that people failed to get on board with her.

IMO the Democrats got crushed for several reasons:

I’m so pissed that James Comey forced her to set up her own email server, in defiance of the rules.

I love Hillary, I voted for her without reservations, I cried when she lost.

I think she’s done running, and I don’t blame her. She’ll be 73. Let the woman relax. ;)

i hate him and i have been crying/not sleeping since the election, but i don’t support this. it sets a dangerous precedent for changing the rules after the fact when one group doesn’t like the result. obama lost the popular vote but won the electoral college, and trump suggested doing this.

This is the best and most important thing you’ve written on here in quite some time. Thank you for it. I hope the people in charge of news media organizations are listening, though I suspect they are not.

This is the first time since HamNo came to Deadspin that I haven’t regretted clicking on an article of his.

Basically, living in a major city gives you access to the culture of those that directly control the country. It could even be said that the shifts in what is considered offensive language is a way to make sure that there’s a pretext to dismiss those from areas that find out what’s newly  offensive (let’s say AA

But it also needs economic diversity, a diversity of background and class, and this has been a resolute blind spot.

This is the best analysis I’ve read of what makes millions of Americans despise organizations like the NYT. They read pieces like that one about the Midwest that you linked and rightfully resent the shit out of it.

It’s more than just an elitist media—there’s a well-embraced classism amongst educated people who live in big cities. The interesting thing, to me, is that most of those big city intelligentsia actually come from more humble upbringings, small towns, and have experienced a lot of racism and ignorance first hand, close

She spent all her time and effort in Philadelphia, maybe she should have spent some time in Erie. Pennsylvania is a big state!
