@38thsignal: Take it to the genius bar. Even if it's not under warranty they sometimes will help you out for free if it's a known problem with your model. It definitely shouldn't be happening. The alternative is to buy an external touchpad which works identically, or just use an external mouse.

Specs are almost pointless unless you're running the same os. iOS smokes with very few system resources. Judging by the hands on demos the iPad 2 totally screams. So specs are nearly useless except for storage which is a nonissue given various alternative cloud and network based solutions. Also number and quality of

@ddback: I've had absolutely no trouble with 16 gbs on the iPad. I stream everything to it. The thing is on minimum 5 hrs a day and I have half a terabyte of data I stream to it from my network and via the cloud.

Interesting. There is reason behind the Apple lockdown besides just a control fetish.

Perhaps I'm missing something but didn't Apple just announce a new feature for iOS 4.3 and the latest iTunes that allows you to play anything from iTunes over your wifi network. Ok. Sure StreamToMe allows you to do this over the internet and from stuff in any folder, but for those who can live with the iTunes solution

There are at least 2 schools of thought here: 1) the ride-it-into-the-ground school, and 2) the sell while you can and upgrade school. I do both depending on the gear involved. I've employed both schools. For my main computer I buy Apple for many reasons, but high among them is incredible resale value. I usually sell

@philosopher_dog: Ok. I found a temporary work around. I'm just going to the Canadian site ca.lifehacker.com . This gives me back the old site for now. FIX THE DAMN SITE

I can't stand the new site. It's just awful. I was visiting regularly and posting a lot until the changes. I mostly visit on an ipad which has become nearly impossible. The site defaults to a mobile version now in mobile safari which is the worst. Everything sits screen width with tiny unreadable fonts! If you zoom in

Same here. The dock is cute though.

There are plenty of work arounds for the maximize button problem. Apple will be revising it in Lion no doubt. Windows management actually takes a bit of digging to figure out what's going on, but it's actually pretty robust IMO. Use the spaces key, expose key and combine this with the arrow keys to get everything

Hiding is definitely the best solution and using Quicksilver. Just use the dock for running programs if at all.

I think the point is to connect a drive to your usb port on your router using an open source firmware. It's actually a pretty handy set of instructions if that's what you want to do. If that's not what you want to do then it's not going to help you.

Sage advice. One thing that helps me is to realize that emotions and moods do actually pass like the weather (except maybe defile depression); for some reason this never dawns on us when we're in the middle of these mind states. So, I like to remind myself that if I'm feeling bad that "this too will pass". I make a

Great. Looking forward to this series. Would also love to see illustrator tutorials. It's a very powerful program and in many ways better than PS for many tasks.

I learned a lot about what makes us unhappy in affluent North America by reading de Botton's great book Status Anxiety. It was made into a BBC doc and is well worth watching. He explains how a meritocracy makes us totally miserable.

Anything Murdoch puts out is guaranteed to make you into a dumb ass turd. Apple is making a pact with the devil of drivel. I say get your news independent of the filter of corporate interests. Personally I love www.democracynow.org . It's by donation and independent.

@NetDiva: Also the fill in feature is much more powerful in TE. Dropbox integration is essential.

@D0GG: Get NoScript or FlashBlock, and also get BashFlash and this should cure the problem, unless you have a bad addon, in which case you should troubleshoot for that. It shouldn't be driving your cpu unless you've forgotten and left open firebug or something.
