It would be nice, and I admit that Poe/Finn banter was fun in the first movie, but demanding EXPLICIT sexuality in a film series that really isn’t about anything sexual at all just seems like barking up a wrong tree.

Movies do not HAVE to represent ANYONE. WTF? Of the plot needs it, great. No writer should feel they MUST include anything they don't want to. This is dumb as fuck.

This is definatly not the direction i want star wars to go. Fan fiction bleeding into the movies? No thanks.

Well said. I don’t understand why this needs to be represented in Star Wars. The only “romantic” characters have been Han and Leia, and Owen and Beru in all the movies, so what is the big deal? Who cares about sexuality, gender preference, or anything else with that topic.....other then Han and Leia, it's not a big

I don’t get the title of this article. There really didn’t seem to be any sexual chemistry between Finn and Poe in either movie and Finn has been shown, thus far anyway, to be attracted exclusively to women. You aren’t wrong for wanting some sort of representation, but insisting it be a couple of characters that don’t

Wow! The U.S.A is so woke it needs a constant steady stream of Expresso from Starbucks or risk brain damage! I don’t care if there are gay characters in any of my shows, but when you bludgeon me with the woke stick, it begins to be to much. This is supposed to be a galaxy far, far away not San Francisco, California.

You know, not every character in a story has to be romantically involved with somebody. Also if we’re being non political (or frank), when exactly did Finn and Poe “hit it off” with the teasing? I still don’t understand this IMMEDIATE need when the story clearly didn’t showcase it, nor call for it in the first place.

I want Star Wars to explore Star Wars stuff, like lightsabers and pew pew. If people want to imagine that Poe and Finn touch sabers, then great. That’s fine, it’s no problem to anyone really, and it serves no purpose to Disney to say it one way or another because all they can do is piss somebody off. And of course, by

And John Harrison isn’t Kahn... why are we listening to anything JJ says about the movie before it comes out anyway?

Looking for an honest conversation here:

I must be the only gay who doesn’t care if I’m “represented” in movies.

But its movie side (for many casual Star Wars fans, the only side that really exists or matters)

Can we just do it in a way that isn’t ham fisted? All of this social issue crusading just for the sake of it is really starting to grow distasteful.

It’s not just China, LGBT+ topics are taboo in much of the world that isn’t North America or Europe (and even in many parts of Europe, where they typically are much more open about sexuality, care about sexual and gender representation is pretty apathetic).

I hate to say it, but as a gay dude myself I don’t find the dearth of queer Star Wars content remotely surprising. And frankly I find it a little disingenuous to act like it is.

Just to nitpick, but a large part of that is due to Poe originally dying in the TIE Fighter crash and only surviving as a last minute change. When Rey was kidnapped, Poe was supposed to be dead and still is in Finn’s eyes.

I’d rather they focus on consistently good plot writing before they bother with the characters’ sexualities.

The internet niche aspect seems to play as big a part in this as the international markets do. As mentioned, this relationship was largely driven by fandom, without any real hints of romance I might add. Hell, go back and watch The Force Awakens, specifically the scene where Kylo takes Rey. Watch how Finn desperately

Since JJ loves having his movies ‘rhyme’, maybe that means we will get to see something like:

There is more money to be made outside Western Markets than there is inside. Just because our sensibilities would be fine with it doesn’t mean that it wouldn’t lose them money in China/India/Etc
