Yes, ughbarf. I went into this open-minded, thinking maybe he had some new things to say. But no. Just plain old ughbarf nice guy drivel in a tiny tux.

Yeah, my grandfather was one of the youngest of 10 and although some of his older sisters took great part in raising him, his oldest siblings were already gone by the time he was around (though I imagine they had a large part in raising his slightly older sibs.)
I remember feeling really sad about leaving my youngest

I'm heartened to hear that it's something both you and your mom are aware of. Me and my mom... we're still working on it.

I'm sure that can happen — I wish it had for me. Unfortunately, I think my parents just weren't aware, really, of how much I was doing. I suspect that's the case for many of the other people in the thread as well.

Gah, no kidding. And 20 years later, it's so hard to let go that I get to put my own needs first... I did want to have kids for a long time (I don't have any now) but having my sense of self reduced to caring for others from a young age will do that to you, I suppose. Glad I got that figured out before I reproduced!

And as the oldest child of four children (the youngest of which is nearly 10 years younger than me) let me toss in that being expected to help raise the littler ones at the ripe age of 10 is zero fun.

Sometimes I try so hard to open a jar or bottle or box that I start menstruating on the spot two weeks before my scheduled date. Ha!! Thanks for the morning guffaw :)

This is the coolest thing I've learned today. Thanks!

I noticed that too! Yay!

It does look pretty neat when you spit it into a cup of water. Having often grabbed the nearest receptacle for just such a mouthful, I can vouch for it at least looking cool. I would not go on to drink it, however.

Me too. My first thought was, "Well, waltz is a pretty traditional dance, so maybe you would only wear something conservative while waltzing and this is supposed to be sarcastic or something?" And then I remembered prepositions. And colloquialisms.

Mr. S and I have been living together for quite some time, but aren't legally married and don't plan to become so. I think this research actually points to some interesting social and classist issues. For many people (but not all) who move in together before being married (or otherwise committed!) it's out of

Score! I will treasure this gif (and jeez, it's way heavier than I expected...)

Wow! That's awesome! But more importantly, did she also make a great beef stroganoff?

That is awesome and I am glad to know it exists.

I absolutely second this. My partner was sort of a secret feminist until I got loud about it and then he was all of a sudden there, and it was great. And my brother is making a slow turn, probably because he hangs out with us so much. I think I know as many men who are vocal feminists as I know women who are.

That sounds amazeballs.

One of the things you can do to make vodka less burny (but not change the flavor, really) is to run it through a britta filter. The charcoal filtering smooths it out a lot — the flavor's not that strong anyway, so it helps. This helps for making cheap vodkas palatable.

Decidedly not!

I haven't started to run into this yet (thankfully!), but it may be because only one of my friends has kids — and she's the one who lives in Texas. I wonder when/if it will hit though...
