You're kidding me right? The engineering that went into the Veyron was, and frankly still is, absolutely astounding.

It was (and still is) very high tech. Lots of development was needed to produce the Veyron.

It is amazing that it took this long to sell 450 of these cars while Porsche sold out of 918s (which they made 918 of) in about a year after putting them on sale. Goes to show that the people want high tech rather than a pretty car that costs a gazillion dollars.

You're right in terms of the emissions created to build new cars to replace the old cars but there's some upsides to this.

Sadly, Topgun was discontinued. It was merged into the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center in Nevada. And Tom Cruise will never be the same.

It really is. Here's a comparison between the Pentagon, QE2, USS Enterprise, the Hindenberg, the Yamato, the Empire State Building and Knock Nevis, a supertanker.

The Spruce Goose was and is amazing. Its made almost entirely out of birch veneer strips which were heated and compressed together with epoxy. Tests showed that it was more durable and stronger than aluminum. This was used mainly because the military wouldn't allow aluminum to be used for the prototype due to war

Helps put this hangar in perspective.

Here's an image for scale.

Next thing you know they'll be secret corking scandals, people sanding and polishing beyond specifications for better aero, and tampering with engine fuel flow rates.
