I get what you’re saying, and it would probably work in any other country...but there are more guns than people in the USA and ~1/3 of the people own guns, you could just shoot blindfolded and hit a gun owner.

My Lancer has a rocker switch that can select between FWD, AWD, and “AWD Lock” (biased to the rear).  Not sure why it’s not more common.
