@Jstas has gas!: The diffs don't move. I don't think I need or have room for yokes. I need some sort of coupling that isn't completely rigid, though.

@Paul Brosius: It's all speculation right now. They are definately MAXED 12A's,. though.

@Speedycop: If it crashes again, pics and the writeup were reposted on www.streetsafari.com

www.speedycop.com is back up!

@BroncoMech: It's surprisingly good! I think the builder had the Ackerman angles calculated. The front wheels appear to turn a bit more.

@Spasticteapot: I still can't believe the seller suggested parting it out. WAAAAY too much awesome for that!

@dorkspeed: Trying to get hold of my site administrator now...

Hey Jalops! Contact me if you are in the MD/DC/NoVA area,, have rotary or fiberglass skill, and want to help! speedycop at comcast dot net

@rad_mike: My hands look plastic? I was holding two small screws in my left hand. I didn't realize I'd even be in the pic! I thought my buddy Doug was just getting the dash...

The frame is so strong, you could probably drive it off a cliff and not even bend it. The car basically has an integral roll cage, made of 2x2 heavy gauge (think trailer hitch) steel.

@True-Blue: I haven't seen poly-lock nuts and wired bolt heads on a car before, but I've seen them on aircraft. Maybe it was being built for a land speed project? More likely just a VERY thorough builder, though. I'm really hoping that someone familiar with this thing in the '80's comes forward and fill me in on it...

It really is waaaaay too nice to risk being damaged racing in LeMons in its present configuration. Therefore, I will have to make mock, lightweight fiberglass or sheetmetal body panels to replace the hood and trunk in the race. Hopefully the Chief Perp will ensure other drivers stay WELL away from it. Death threats

@jaygryph: There are NO kit cars like that. This is a completely one-off car. Jim Thwaite (the Wartburg guy) has kindly offered to help me make molds of the nosed and tail, so that if anything happens during the race, they can be duplicated. LeMons no longer tolerates the rolling derby attitude of some of the early

@CrabSpirits: Yeah, but I'm gonna let 5 new guys share that spotlight! One guy has paid up already, that only leaves room for four more...

I need 4-5 guys to chip in $500 each. I'll buy it, prep it, and guarantee the guys a seat in a 24 Hours of LeMons race for the cost of the LeMons fees ($225 each). You will be instant LeMons LEGENDS!

That reminds me, I have an E28 body I need to get rid of! It's an '86 524TD with no drivetrain, fuel system, or wiring harness. They all found their way into my '63 Thunderbird. Don't ask me how, but it has a posi rear! 524TD's weren't supposed to. $300 would do it, it's nice and straight, with just a bit of rust...

This looks like a job for London's ANGLE GRINDER MAN!
