I have never known quite what to think of the Girl Scouts, because the descriptions I've heard from lots of former members vary pretty widely. In my pre-out-of-the-closet-days I was a Boy Scout, and as much as I hate to admit it that experience pretty much framed my adulthood and I wish more kids got a chance at it,

I agree you with one caveat: blaring the word at 100 decibels in Cee Lo Green's song Fuck You really ought to be abandoned. I know the lyrics of the song so I always know what's coming, but holy shit is that an awkward lyric in a piece of otherwise relatable music.

This commercial is filmed well on a technical level, but Doug is right that the dog food reveal changes the tone from sentimental to sleazy. I'm not sure "emotional vampire" quite covers it. I hope this style of commercial doesn't catch on.

Confession time. I am not a fan of this musical at all. Before even worrying about the actors my first worry is the music. God awful doesn't begin to cover it. The plot line is sort of interesting but the singSongSingysingsong-likeabluebirdSingaSonginess of this musical is unbelievably draining. Glad some people like

That's disappointing. We'd love to have you here. There's a lot of African American history in the South—in fact, per capita, the South is home to the highest percentage of African Americans in the country. Mississippi and Louisiana have the highest percentages (37% and 31%), followed by Georgia, Maryland, South

Interesting assessment.

Dodai IS the author :)

I agree whole-heartedly with you on this one.

I have nothing to add. Just want to say thanks for writing this piece Meagan.

I can only speak for myself. Someone accused me (a guy) because we slept together but he wanted a shot at my friend. No police ever involved; he told people behind my back and I found out about it. And even though that accusation was totally and completely false, the fact that it happened at all has never been easy

I have to revisit two very telling statements from you for a moment:

"...the same thing that "oh straight people" serves in a conversation about heterosexism." -fortheloveofbeets 6/20/2013

"I'm white, but because I have experience talking about and researching feminist issues, I'm well-versed enough in the dynamics of

Are you really trying to insult me by saying that as a gay person I have to be comfortable insulting random straight people? Climb off your mountain top honey, you don't have anywhere useful to lift me.

I feel the same way. I can picture a group of drug addicts watching this video and being like:

Blinky: Man this is some good shit. What is it?
Inky: He told us already. It's Molly.
Clyde: I said Miley.

I am sorry, but I do not want a license to throw around heterophobic statements just because I have some bad experiences with straight people. I'm disappointed but unfortunately not shocked that that kind of sycophancy would be encouraged. Believe it or not, there are some LGBT people I know who hate straight people.

Sorry, I'm sure that's frustrating. I've had a similar experience here with some Jezebel posters and gay issues.Kind of like:

P: How are you?
Me: Fine.
P: Really? Even though you have no power? And everyone is against you? And no one can possibly understand what you're going through?
Me: I don't really feel that way.
P: I

In fairness, your straight whine bores me too. This style of music is notoriously anti-gay.

See, no one wins at the Oppression Olympics.

Marc Jacob's ex. Now dating Lance Bass. We lost him to Lance Bass...

I agree with you that the song is unforgivably lazy. At least when Madonna's team did it, they come up with a song that was fucking fierce. :)

Sad unrelated fact of the day: The main YouTube video for the abysmal Miley Cyrus vehicle "Party in the USA" has 338,429,749 views. Population of the actual United States

It's certainly challenging me. I'm not sure I'm completely on board with it—Madonna did the same thing with gay people with Vogue (and well, her whole career, even pulling Britney Spears and Christina A. into the act) and Lady Gaga's entire existence more or less centers on impersonating early 90s drag queens. IMO the
