I will work hard to stop being White and report back on the results. Congratulations on your transition.

I like you, Dodai Stewart, but I can't support you this time. You can't have this one both ways: either pop music created by non-dominant cultures is open to enjoyment and emulation by people outside that culture, or it is off limits to anyone not from that background and we therefor can't complain about limited sales

I just Googled it. Hahaha.

Weirdly it was next to a Tweet from Levi Johnston because he was still relevant then.

Honestly? Because in the age of Twitter it's possible to be outraged and then get on with the rest of your day faster than minute rice can ding in the microwave. I didn't have a problem with what either of these ladies said.

I don't have a problem with how she said it. I assumed she is talking about a specific group of people she knows and/or her gay fans. Some LGBT people may feel differently but I don't really want to nitpick people who are basically trying to be helpful. I think that is what hwright was reacting to in his/her post

I don't know that I'd circumscribe motives to it across the board. I think a lot of people think things like this just because they've heard that "most of us in America are mixed" and therefor assume it's plausible history.

(It is somewhat plausible history in families from parts of Central and South America, a fact

Actually Elizabeth Warren basically did say that (not with war bonnets or anything though). From the Washington Post:

Warren acknowledged listing herself as a minority in a directory of law professors. The directory included her on a list of minority professors from 1985 to 1996, the Boston Globe reported. Warren said

Don't get too angry. It's not hard fact, more like speculation due to some similarities, noted many years after the fact. It does highlight the fact that cowboy/Wild West culture is largely whitewashed— History.com notes in an article that about 25% of cowboys were African Americans. Regardless, the Ranger character

I'm 90% behind you. I didn't find what she said insulting either. (Except in the sense that if she said she was "praying for a straight boy" there'd be some blow back, for a different set of reasons). Speaking for myself, I have enough to worry about from real homophobes to be concerned about some straight chick who

Hahaha.

It stands for Gays and Lesbians Banning Transsexuals. Depending on who you ask. :D

Busted for skimming. Thanks for pointing that out.

Don't forget the best exchange in the depo:

Lead us to the rock, enlightented one.

Now playing

Not my favorite song. Interesting return to an early-90s vibe. Reminds me of my first outtings to gay bars in rural Louisiana.

Wish she'd get around to doing this song again (although it was a cover):

It comes from a lot of sources but is codified in particular in the theo-philosophy of Saint Thomas Aquinas. I'm having trouble finding an easy to read source right now because Aquinas wrote about a lot of stuff. But he basically argued that sexual pleasure became more sinful the further away it got from "nature"

Democrats do not get a free pass on this. They sang this exact same song just 10 to 15 years ago.

There is a weird US Southern phenomenon where outrageousness is respected or at least left to do its own thing as long as the person doing it is sufficiently fabulous. It's very hard to explain. I think it partially comes from a culture that highly prizes rebellion (for a whole host of reasons).

I thought it was beautiful. The clothing ads actually made it more involving to me. It highlighted the gap between the seriousness of life and the frivolous. I think if it were hanging in a gallery somewhere instead of on the pages of an eMagazine it would have been considered "daring."

Welcome to rage in the age of Twitter.
