I fully agree that if possible, dips should be started on parallel bars. If they’re not available, I’d recommend doing assisted dips with your feet on the ground until you’re capable of doing the unassisted dips.

If you intend to do dips from rings in a doorway bar, be VERY careful to progress slowly. Muscles progress quicker than tendons, and I’m on my way to the wrist specialist this Tuesday to figure out a nagging injury that’s had me sidelined for quite some time.

Yes, the road was resurfaced, but the house about 100 feet away matches identically to the one in the video. With dips, be careful to progress slowly and do adequate wrist stretching. I just booked an appointment with an orthopedic doctor to have the tenosynovitis looked at in my wrist from overloading too early. My upper body was strong enough to be doing unassisted ring dips, but my tendons weren't strong enough to keep up.
