Size of all four tires has to be the same. The difference from tread wear is negligible to insignificant. Source: 07 land cruiser, permanent all wheel drive, 250k miles, one owner(me).
Except that they could easily have implemented these improvements on both sides, as most people assume they would, but didn’t, primarily to save a few cents on 5 mm of steel thickness at the expense of people’s lives. All this shows is that without some oversight businesses will not do what’s right.
That’s like saying they only test for emissions when the car is on a dyno, so tune the ECU to only pass when it’s on a dyno...
This is a good point...but there have been instances where I have taken quotes back to these big city dealers with the high rent and they say “Oh yeah we can match that price.” Meaning they had the ability to offer it from the get-go, but chose not to.
It must be nice to roll into a car dealership, point to something cool and say “I’ll take that one,” without any…
Donuts can be pushed much further than runflats.
I have owned one all wheel drive car that had run-flats when I bought it.
I put run-flats on my Corvette after my dad went into his whole “I’m not stopping on the side of the interstate at night because of a flat tire,” spiel.
If you hate run flats, never buy a small (Nissan Rogue, Rav-4) size SUV with a 3rd row. In addition to being completely pointless that third row takes away your room for the spare and now gives you more expensive tires to replace every time!
It might have been overwrought, but it was far from ridiculous. He made a lot of good points, and you didn’t rebut a single one.
Run-flats SUCK. They’re noisy as hell and the ride is terrible. My Mini came with them and in the first week I ordered four regular tires and a donut spare.
No run-flats here, but no spare, either. The C-Max comes with an on-board compressor / fix-a-flat dispenser.
Ok, so I’m being really charitable to your argument, they last marginally fewer miles, while handle not as well, but good enough, all while being somewhat more expensive, right? That’s not exactly a good selling point.
RunFlats suck. uncomfortable as hell, heavy, bad for fuel economy etc..
That said, never had a flat in 19 years of driving.
And I wouldn’t be caught dead putting a spare in a Miata I stripped of all unneccesary weight.
Btw, those tire saver spray cans can seriously ruin any alloy wheel they are used on, stay away from…
Flats happen less now?- than when?
I came in to this debate thinking spares were unnecessary in the age of cell phones and AAA, but your comment remained me that in the worst conditions those are insufficient. Being self reliant is the best peace of mind.
Run flats turn a $10 tire repair into a $120 tire replacement and wreck ride quality. Spares>>>run flat
I just used my spare tire last week, got me back home 110 miles on a Sunday 2am in the middle of the desert. I would be pissed if my car included a can of fix-a-flat instead.
